China's team selection for the Olympics has been one of the biggest conversation topics of this qualification period. The rules dictate that a maximum of three men and three women per country can be taken to Paris to compete in weightlifting. Thanks to China's depth of talent they were always going to have far more athletes qualified than available spots.
The lifters officially selected are: Li Fabin (M -61), Shi Zhiyong (M -73), Liu Huanhua (M -102), Hou Zhihui (W -49), Luo Shifang (W -59) and Li Wenwen (W +87). They're all world record holders and four are previous Olympic champions!
Following the resolution of the final qualifier (the World Cup in April) there aren't any big surprises here. Bulgarian lifter Karlos Nasar makes sending Li Dayin in the M-89s too risky. The same is true with the USAs Olivia Reeves whose progress has scared off Liao Guifang in the -71s, and Solfrid Koanda potentially looking to be too much for Liang Xiaomei in the W-81s.
How many golds do you think China will take in Paris?
