2025 Youth & Junior World Weightlifting Championships: First Impressions
The City of Kings hosted Youth Worlds in 2024; also a two-platform event. In ‘25, Youth and Junior weightlifters will compete simultaneously and side-by-side across six full days of competition.
In his invitation to the IWF, President Velazco also remarked on Peru’s growing reputation as a Pan-American weightlifting powerhouse, saying, “[Peru] is expected in the near future to start adding Olympic medals with the team that is currently on the rise.” Of course, he’s not the only one who’s enthusiastic.
“We’re excited,” adds Weightlifting House founder and lead commentator Seb Ostrowicz. “A single, larger event, rather than two smaller ones, should help the competition reach ‘escape velocity’ and provide more visibility for the athletes along with a thrilling experience for the fans"
- Strength in Numbers: Youth and Junior international weightlifting competitions have seen an uptick in participation in recent years. 350 athletes from 64 countries performed at Juniors in 2024 — up 48% from 2019.
