Iran’s clean and jerk gold medalist, Alireza Yousefi, has done it again. Fresh off his 262kg gold-medal clean & jerk at the 2024 World Championships, Alireza has now shared a video of a 275kg (606lb) jerk from the rack—the heaviest weightlifting movement ever caught on camera.
Where Did Alireza Come From?
We’ve been following Alireza for years. Some of you might remember when, at just 15 years old, he set the 225kg youth world record in 2019. We even filmed him back in 2021—you can check out that training video here.
What Are the Heaviest Lifts Ever?
-
On camera: Before Alireza’s lift, no one had been filmed jerking over 270kg, though several have reportedly achieved it.
-
Clean & Jerk: Only one man has clean and jerked 270kg on camera—Lasha Talakhadze.
Legendary Stories of the Past
Before smartphones became weightlifting’s unofficial gear, a few legendary lifts were claimed:
-
Vyacheslav Klokov (Dmitry’s father): 280kg jerk at 110kg bodyweight.
-
Anatoly Pisarenko: Reportedly cleaned 280kg at around 130kg.
Now, 275kg is the new standard for the heaviest weight ever filmed. If you haven’t seen the lift, you can watch it here.
What’s Next?
We’re most excited to see if Alireza can take down the all-time clean and jerk world record of 268kg. Based on this performance, we think he’s got it in him!
